Footings
Last week we made some further progress with the foundations. Old Joe spent the week digging out the footings and was able to pour them on Friday. Today he is out there digging through the excess dirt to clear the crawlspace. Masons will be back out tomorrow to start laying block along the new footings. At that point we will really begin to see the footprint of the whole house!

Breaking Ground....Finally!!
We've finally done it. We've broken ground at 301 N. Clairmont. Hooray! It has been a long, exhausting process to get to this point, but The Drews are very excited to be beginning the construction phase.
We've been off of the blog for a long time but are really going to try to keep it going through construction to share the updates with everyone. Check back weekly for photo updates.
Construction began on Tuesday with some excavation around the existing basement and the layout of footings. Our concrete guy Joe appears to be older than the original house we bought! I hope than means he brings a lot of experience with him. Within the first 5 minutes of my first construction visit, I found a 2' layout error. It turns out that 18 + 8 does not equal 24. Who knew?? Not Joe. :) Looks like I'll be spending several lunch breaks checking on things at the house! It is going to take some effort on our part to accept that residential construction will not be to the same standards that Matt and I are used to in our work lives.
The mason began on Wednesday and as you can see in the picture he got started re-building the basement walls. We're pleased with his start. This meant it was time for our first selection - pick a brick! Matt and I both zeroed in on the same brick and are very happy with our final selection! I hope the rest of our selections go like this.
